Stolen bikes

We all know how upsetting it is to have a bike stolen. Please watch for these bikes and alert their owners if you have any information that could lead to their return.

We have this plea from a UWA BUG member:

STOLEN: Trek 5000 carbon frame racing bike – small, on Wednesday 22nd August 2007.

I rode my new (2 months old) Trek 5000 into work at UWA on Wednesday after a four week holiday to find the padlock on the bike cage at UWA had been changed for an electronic one without my knowing. I LOCKED it (with a 15mm cable lock through frame and rear wheel) to the rack nearby at the corner of the Geology building to go up to Campus Card to find out how to get electronic access. That was at 9.25am and when I returned to move it at 10.00am it had gone. At the time I locked it there were plenty of people around – did anyone see anyone suspicious at the bike rack? It seems likely that someone must have been watching me lock it up.

The bike is a standard 2007 TREK 5000 bike - except it has a women's specific Sella Italia LDY saddle, SPD pedals, lights, a TREK computer and two black bottle holders. It’s a 50” frame – that’s the smallest one. Silver colour with black carbon showing in places. Carbon seat post. Black drop handlebar. The dark grey “Bontraga” wheels are very distinctive with a lot less spokes than standard bike wheels. Frame Number WTU 2945T010B

If anyone sees it or gets offered one in near new condition, or saw someone acting suspiciously on Wednesday, please contact me, UWA security (6488 3020), or the Subiaco police (93816811). The incident is recorded under my married name: Debbie Murphy.

The bike is insured, but there may be a quibble about replacement cost. Also, any information may help to prevent this happening to someone else.

Bike thief caught

Nicole Cox writes in The Sunday Times (22 July 2007) that a serial bicycle thief who allegedly stole bikes worth $15,000 from train stations has been arrested after security cameras caught him in the act. Police recovered 15 bikes, including one worth $5000.

The 26-year old has been remanded to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday where police will allege that he sold the bikes to pawn shops and second hand dealers. Police are now looking for the bikes' owners and anyone who thinks they may be the rightful owner of one of these bike should call the police rail unit on 9225 1069.

Double whammy!

My mountain bike of less than 3 months has been taken from my complex's gated parking area. The anchoring bolts, to which it was D-locked have been torn apart to get at it. It is very sad as this was the second bike to have been stolen from me in less than a year, both bikes taken just 4 months apart.

When: The Apollo was taken late July to early August 2006. The Norco was take between Thursday night and Friday morning (9th to 10th November 2006).

Location: Parkview Apartments Garage.A police report has been made for both bikes.

I have just had my bike of 20 years now ripped from its moorings in my garage - its a rare Ricardo Ridge Rider ..I reported the theft to the Police but they were not hopeful for its return.

I'm keen to get it back of course. alexanderb47@iinet.com.au
